History
Arrival
Jack Mender was one of the first people to appear on the Odyssey of Hope. He and five others woke in a space station that seemed all but abandoned. Jack woke confused and lost, unaware where he was with the only knowledge to him was his name and title as an ODST. It was also discovered that his VISR (Visual Intelligence System, Reconnaissance) was damaged during interdimensional travel leaving the ODST with no record or information on anything to do with his world. He was promised by Ethan Feyrer that he would try to get Jack's memories back in some shape or form in which the ODST agreed, working with the group in pursuit of his past.
Aescir Conflicts
Shortly after arriving on the FAS Odyssey of Hope, the crew aboard were attacked by a faction known as the Aescir Rogues after Ethan Feyrer had switched on the station's systems powering them on after decades of inactivity. The crew, Jack included fought through the attackers but the group were then teleported to a planet named Pyroxis to get materials and to give the Overseer time to cloak the station from the Aescir threat. Pyroxis was a desolate abandoned world, with nothing but a fading memory of war seen with its destroyed cities and empty landscapes. As Jack and the group ventured there, his VISR would suddenly activate for a short moment. A friendly IFF tag was seen before it would disappear, him and a few others would investigate and Jack would discover that it came from someone, someone from his own world. A Spartan-II supersoldier. Jack was aware that he couldn’t remember his world, so he asked the Spartan for help. She told him about the Covenant and UNSC, and managed to get details on Jack’s role in the UNSC. An ODST assigned to the Phoenix-class vessel named the Spirit of Fire, used early on in the Human-Covenant War. Jack and the group as a whole would then rest, waking up a delivery sent with his name on it would be sent. He would open it and inside, there would be an amount of small headsets inside, when worn the user would see a HUD giving various details such as their vitals, ammunition count with their weapon and a digital compass. Shortly after the Overseer appeared stressing that the group should head towards an Aescir outpost not too far off from the group's base. Jack and the others prepare and gear up, before storming the Aescir outpost discovering that the group's presence was now known that the Aescir view them as a threat. One to be afraid of. The group now we're left with one goal before being able to return to the station, take down the Aescir’s commander. The commander was hiding in a cave in the wilderness of Pyroxis, the group armed and ready went down into the depths slaughtering teams of Aescir soldiers. However, the commander was swift and managed to escape. With materials and food and water in hand, the group was able to be brought back to their new home and were shown around the station without interruption.
Rendath Conflicts
As Jack and the crew returned back to the FAS Odyssey of Hope, they began to find themselves in a state of rest. Able to train and learn more of the universe they were all seemingly stranded in. Jack himself began to talk with Ethan Feyrer, discussing the potential on gaining insight on his UNSC past as well as learning some of Ethan's motivations and history. A few weeks or so had passed and one of the members of the group, Emil had fallen ill. Slowly infected with some sort of virus due to his ventures in his own world. Jack and the crew were sent off to attack a facility occupied by the The Rendath Confederacy, a faction forced into war using interdimensional technology in their efforts to control the universe. The group infiltrated the base, eventually finding the medicine required to treat Emil as well as a Interdimensional Funnel. A device built by the Rendath that enables the usage of travel across worlds.
Xenomorph Connection
As the Dimensional Dams were put into a state of disarray the group all found themselves in some sort of pocket dimension. It was small around the size of a tropical island. The group had found a shuttle and aimed to fix it, but something lurked below the island's dilapidated buildings. A strange terrifying alien species known as Xenomorphs rested in the caverns of the island. Jack unknown to this was on a patrol alone and had heard the guttural screams of the creatures from a distance, The ODST had to use survival and cunning to survive and he had to sneak his way around what was then confirmed to be their main hive on the island. The Xenomorphs were at every corner, the ODST moving slow and steady but he was eventually spotted fighting through dozens of the tall black aliens. The soldier ran out of ammo for his M7S Caseless Submachine Gun and was approached by one of the creatures. Jack remained still and the lone Xenomorph got closer and closer, a strange sickness plaguing his mind for a moment the alien about to strike him down. Jack then took out his Combistick, a retractable spear and impaled the alien making his escape from the hive.
A while later the group had to explore the deepest depths of the island, an old facility located underground left abandoned and uncontrolled. The expedition went smooth until one of these Xenomorphs were seen, but it did not attack. It simply watched from a distance walking away as the group went closer. It was almost like the alien was beckoning the group, beckoning someone. The group went down to the lowest point of the facility and dozens of Xenomorphs were seen, but none of them were hostile watching the group with bloodshed in their minds. The group had entered a large room and a giant Xenomorph was what awaited them. The queen of their entire hive approached but her attention seemed fully affixed towards Jack Mender. The ODST was suddenly picked up, the group raising their weapons. The ODST was pulled close and a wave of memories flashed through his mind in an instant detailing the creation and entrapment the Xenomorphs faced in their original worlds. The ODST cried and recoiled in pain and the group opened fire but now everything the queen had felt, the ODST did too. The pain of bullets striking his armour, piercing his skin absolutely overpowered him and the queen was eventually killed. It was like a drill going straight into his head. At the end of the slaughter the Xenomorph the group saw at the beginning at the venture was seen walking towards Jack as he slowly recollected himself. The alien had nothing to say, but seemed to follow and listen to his each and every word. The group grew confused, the ODST distraught. The group and the Xenomorph had to put aside their differences now with the obeying alien being coined the nickname Rookie.
Death
Aberrant's Betrayal
As Jack and the group were exploring a mysterious facility, the Mobile Sentry known as MS-01 Aberrant had turned rogue. His creator Kaz, and his brother Cogent were killed shortly before causing Aberrant to gain a distain for humanity blaming it on the death of his family. The Mobile Sentry lashed out at the group and had attacked them. The whole group fought Aberrant with Jack attempting to connect with his VISR to try deactivate what sort of protocol the Mobile Sentry was running to fuel such a angered frenzy. A Guardian by the name of IMP-7 fought hard against Aberrant the two exchanging blows, the Guardian entering a weakned state. Aberrant in a last ditch effort began to overload his fuel cells. Jack and IMP rushing to him with the Guardian keeping Aberrant pinned while Jack attempted to stop what would have been a nuclear explosion. The two failed, the group narrowly escaping and Jack Mender was then killed in the explosion.
Personality
Jack is a soldier of very few words. Often observing the groups actions simply giving his input when it is most needed. He is never one for informal chatting, and his voice comes across as calm and stoic. Jack as reserved as he is has shown glimpses of being even a little laid back to those he absolutely respects most. Jack has shown that he abandons his reserved self if those around him are put into danger often going down the path of least resistance just to ensure that nobody is hurt. He's shown this time and time again with the reason of his death purely coming down to his protection of others.
